About The Role:

Seismic Therapeutic, a biotechnology startup focused on the intersection of structure, protein engineering, machine learning and immunology, is seeking a Director of Finance to build our FP&A capabilities and assist in the monthly close and reporting process. This position reports to the Vice President of Finance.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the vendor accrual process for the monthly close partnering with the business and external vendors to record expenses in compliance with GAAP
  • Responsible for internal financial reporting, including monthly comparison of actual vs. budget results
  • Collaborate with the Accounting team on the monthly close to ensure the books are closed accurately and promptly
  • Lead the development of annual budgets, long range planning, and periodic forecast updates
  • Develop financial models and ad-hoc analyses to support strategic initiatives and decision-making.
  • Assist in the preparation of presentations to the Board of Directors and Senior Management Team
  • Serve as a strategic business partner to functional groups
  • Assist with the oversight of the procurement and purchasing processes and ensure proper coding of expenses

Who You Are:

  • Strong ability to build good working relationships with cross-functional business teams. Work effectively in and contribute to a team environment. Approaches work with a positive, team-first attitude.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including running meetings and preparing presentations for internal and external groups. Ability to communicate effectively with the team and Senior Management.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s in Finance, Accounting or a relevant degree
  • 8+ years of relevant work experience
  • Prior experience working in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, SEC reporting, and experience with public company compliance.
  • Highly skilled in Excel and PowerPoint
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with FP&A planning tools and ERPs (QuickBooks and NetSuite)

Senior Scientist, Preclinical Translation

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated Senior Scientist to help drive novel immunotherapy programs. The candidate must be independent, goal oriented, flexible, and able to work efficiently across multiple projects. We are searching for enthusiastic, and innovative individuals with a deep scientific background in drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics (DMPK) who thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with project team leads to help design PK/PD studies and lead DMPK efforts to optimize molecules utilizing in vitro, in vivo, and in silico methods and models.
  • Provide scientific leadership in the discovery of large molecule drug candidates by integrating DMPK strategy to progress drug discovery project.
  • Work closely with CROs and external stakeholders for all DMPK related activities
  • Help plan and analyze  in vitro & in vivo experiments, as well as effectively communicate results to peers and senior leadership
  • Make independent decisions related to day-to-day experimental activities

Basic Requirements

  • Ph.D. with 5+ years, MSc with 12+ years or BSc with 15+ years of relevant experience
  • Excellent understanding of ADME principals with knowledge of PK/PD modeling of large molecules
  • Previous experience working with antibodies and Fc fusion proteins
  • Knowledge of of bioassay development principles and data interpretation is preferred
  • Understanding of immunology, immunotherapy and autoimmunity is preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and clearly communicate complex data sets to peers and senior leadership
  • Scientifically rigorous but comfortable taking calculated risks with imperfect knowledge
  • Ability to work within a team, excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Self-motivated, conscientious, and passionate about improving patients’ lives

Core Responsibilities:

  • Design and train new classes of machine learning models to optimize natural proteins for therapeutic properties and design synthetic proteins with novel therapeutic functions.
  • Spearhead computational de novo antibody design efforts to create new therapeutics targeting challenging antigens.
  • Integrate diverse external and internal data sources including protein sequence, structure, function, and molecular characterization data to enable detailed modulation and multi-objective optimization of protein properties.
  • Work with a diverse team of protein scientists, immunologists, and clinical experts to tailor modeling efforts toward high-impact therapeutic applications.
  • Establish robust data infrastructure to enable machine learning model training and deployment of data analysis and visualization tools.
  • Develop production-quality code in a team setting for use by both computational and wet-lab scientists.
  • Present progress from scientific work in regular meetings and prepare reports and slide decks for broader internal and external communication.

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD in Mathematics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Statistics or a related field. Exceptional candidates with extensive computational experience and a PhD in a non-computational field will also be considered.
  • 3+ years of industry experience with developing and applying machine learning methods to create new biological drugs, using deep learning models such as variational autoencoders and graph neural networks.
  • Application of ML in the field of drug discovery is essential with hands-on experience in the following: protein engineering, or statistical genetics are especially relevant.
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with wet lab scientists to generate and analyze real-world data in an applied setting, especially in the context of pharmaceutical development.
  • Proficiency in Python and data analysis with Numpy/Scipy, R, or another statistical programming language.
  • A strong drive to collaborate and communicate with a diverse and vibrant team of both dry and wet lab scientists.

It’s a plus but not required:

  • Experience with AWS, Google Cloud, or another cloud computing framework.
  • Familiarity with Dash, R Shiny, or another interactive app development framework.
  • Application of ML in the fields of genomics and immunology.
  • Publications in major scientific journals that apply machine learning methods to problems in molecular or structural biology.
